Geleceğin Demokrasileri İçin Tanışma Toplantısı /
A Pilot Meeting for the Democracies of the Future
Modern telekomünikasyon teknolojileri vatandaşlara politik kararlara kısa sürede verecekleri oylarla müdahil olma imkânı tanıyor. Öteki taraftan “plebisit”, yani halkoyuna başvurma, demokrasiyi tanımlamaktan giderek uzaklaşıyor. Bu konferansta dünyanın dört bir yanından gelen temsili demokrasi savunucuları ve karşıtları, alternatif yönetişim modellerini değerlendirecek; oy kullanma, gözetleme, şifreleme ve manipülasyon gibi yeni teknolojilerin bilinciyle liberteryanizm için yeni ufuklar önerecek.
Katılımcılar arasında Arte Povera sanat akımının öncülerinden Michelangelo Pistoletto; roman yazarı ve sanatçı Ingo Niermann; Çin’in Yeni Düzeni (2003) ve Devrimin Sonu (2009) gibi kitapların yazarı, Pekin’deki Tsinghua Üniversitesi’nde edebiyat ve tarih profesörü Wang Hui; yazar, kâşif ve teknoloji uzmanı Ben Vickers; eski Hrant Dink Vakfı binasında yaptıkları çalışmayla bienale katılan Ayreen Anastas ve Rene Gabri; Boğaziçi Üniversitesi Sosyoloji Bölümü’nden Nazan Üstündağ ve Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev yer alıyor.

Modern telecommunication could enable all citizens to participate in political debates and to vote with short notice on an unlimited number of questions. Instead, plebiscites are often limited to elementary constitutional questions and need to be initiated with a petition that is signed by a large number of citizens. The plebiscite is regarded as a last resort in saving rather than an actual exercise in democracy.
'Democracies of the Future' brings together defenders and critics of representative democracy from all over the world to debate about alternative models of governance. The conference investigates into projects on a democratic renewal just as in approaches of overcoming democratic imperfection and oppression through new technological developments in voting, surveillance, encryption, and manipulation. The conference focusses in particular on the new forms of libertarianism on the left (communization), on the right (Silicon valley) and beyond (crypto anarchism) as on a renaissance of paternalism and segregationism.
