Ayna nöronlarının keşfi, eylem, hareket, motor ve uzamsal deneyim, duygulanım ve empati gibi estetik ve görsel çalışmalar alanlarında yeniden değerlendirmeye alınan tüm bu özellikler hakkındaki bir tartışmayı körükledi. Vittorio Gallese konuşmasında, içerilmiş simülasyonun (embodied simulation) imajlarla ve imaj deneyimlerimizle olan ilişkimizde oynadığı role odaklanacak. İçerilmiş simülasyon, nesneleri, uzamı ve başkalarının eylemlerini kendi motor temsillerimizde, başkalarının duygularını ve duygulanımlarını ise viseromotor ve sensorimotor temsillerimizde haritalandırdığımıza işaret eder. Gallese, içerilmiş simülasyonun imaj deneyimlerimizle potansiyel ilişkisini, laboratuvarda elde ettiği teorik ve ampirik çalışmaları değerlendirerek tartışacak.

Annie Besant ve C.W. Leadbeater'ın Düşünce formları (1905), ardındaki gizemli sanatçılar ve aydınlık ilüstrasyonlarıyla uzun zamandır 20. yüzyıl soyut sanatının gelişiminde bir köşetaşı olarak kabul ediliyor. Bu konuşma, odağı sanattan uzaklaştırıp Besant'ın yazılarının temel kaygılarından biri olan düşünce, hatırlama ve hislenme ile bunların işleyiş süreçlerine doğru genişletiyor. The ‘Problem’ of Images: Embodied Simulation and Experimental Aesthetics

The discovery of mirror neurons has influenced the debate on action, gestures, motor and spatial knowledge, emotions and empathy, all aspects that in recent years have been deeply reconsidered within aesthetics and visual studies. Vittorio Gallese will focus on the role embodied simulation (ES) plays in mediating our relation to images and their experience. ES shows that we map objects, space and the actions of others onto our own motor representations, as well as others’ emotions and sensations onto our own viscero-motor and sensory-motor representations. Gallese will discuss the potential relevance of ES to the experience of images, by reviewing theoretical and empirical work from our lab.
A Radiating Vibration and a Floating Form – Thought Forms and Intersubjectivity

Thought forms (1905) by Annie Besant and C.W. Leadbeater, with its bright illustrations by obscure artists, has been acknowledged as a cornerstone in the development of 20th century abstract art. This lecture will try to shift the focus from art to the mental processes including thinking, remembering, feeling and their modes of operation, one of the main concerns in Besant's writings. Through the analysis of central assumptions such as thoughts and desires producing vibrations in the people's upper bodies and creating a floating form that can interact and merge with other bodies, we will argue that the theory of thought forms was pointing towards an idea of embodied intersubjectivity and empathy, in which thinking and feeling are presented as a shared, intra-bodily experience.
