Alman fotoğrafçı, heykeltıraş, öğretmen ve sanatçı Blossfeldt (1865–1932) Berlin’de yaşadı ve çalıştı. Sanatçı, doğal dünyanın sanatsal ve mimari yaratıcılığını gözler önüne seren ve zamanla meşhur olan yakın çekim bitki ve canlı nesne fotoğraflarının ilk kez yer aldığı Urformen der Kunst (Doğada Sanat Formları) kitabını 1928’de yayımladı. Hiç fotoğrafçılık eğitimi almadı; resimlerinin çoğunu, modellerinin mikrokozmik estetiğini yakalamak için bir nesneyi 30 kez büyütebilen el yapımı kameralarla çekti. Blossfeldt, eğitim malzemesi olarak kullandığı binlerce bitki ve bitki örtüsü fotoğrafı çekti ve bu fotoğraflar ancak sanatçının portföyü yayımlandıktan sonra halkın dikkatini çekti. Fotoğraflarından oluşan bir seçki, Kanal’da sergileniyor.

A German photographer, sculptor, teacher and artist, Blossfeldt (1865–1932) lived and worked in Berlin. In 1928, he published the book Urformen der Kunst (Art Forms in Nature), including his now renowned close-up photographs of plants and living things that demonstrated for the first time the artistic and architectural creativity of the natural world. He never received formal training in photography, and took most of his pictures with home-made cameras able to magnify his subjects by 30 times, to capture the microcosmic world of his specimens. Blossfeldt took thousands of pictures of plants and flora, which he used as teaching tools before they were brought to public attention by the publication of his portfolio. A selection of its plates is on display in the Channel.
