1974’te Almanya’da doğan Pelin Tan, Mardin’de yerleşik bir araştırmacı, 1965’te Moskova’da doğan Anton Vidokle, Brooklyn ve Berlin’de yerleşik bir sanatçıdır. Tan ile Vidokle, sanat/çalışmanın gelecek tarihini keşfe çıkmak üzere 2084: bir bilimkurgu gösterisi (2012–14) film serisinde işbirliğinde bulunmuştur. Serinin ikinci bölümü, Sanatçılar Cumhuriyeti’nin Çöküşü (2014), sanatçıların yönetimi altındaki bir devlet fikrini irdeliyor. Film 2084 yılında geçiyor ve yalınayak bir (sanat) tarihçiden öğrendiğimiz üzere, sanatçıların yönetimi altında bir cumhuriyet kurulmuş ve yaşamı durmaksızın sanata dönüştürme gayreti yüzünden çökmüştür. Bir Facebook durum bildiriminin başlattığı ve kısa sürede bir harekete evrilen rejimde para kaldırılmıştır ve insanlar takas aracı olarak bilgi ürünlerini kullanmaktadır. Devletler yönetilemez olmuştur ve sınırlar, güçlü şahıslarca baştan çizilmiştir. Sanat, hayatı bütünüyle sömürgeleştirmiş, gündelik hayatın tüm yönleri estetiğe dönüşmüştür. Bir zamanın müzeleri veri merkezleri olmuştur. Varoluş, kendini sürekli yeniden tasarlamaktır. Hiç kimsenin bir mesleği yoktur. Artık iş de yoktur. Bir grup insan, bir zamanlar Berlin diye anılan bir şehirde buluşur ve orada bağımsız kültürel üretim olasılıklarını tartışırlar.

Born in 1974 in Germany, Pelin Tan is a Mardin-based researcher, and Anton Vidokle, born in 1965 in Moscow is an artist based in Brooklyn and Berlin. Tan and Vidokle have collaborated on the film series 2084: a science fiction show (2012–14) to explore the future history of art/work. The second episode of the series, titled The Fall of the Artists’ Republic (2014), ponders the concept of an artist-run state. The film takes place in the year 2084 and as we find out from a barefoot (art) historian, an artist-run republic has been established and subsequently fallen due to the relentless pursuit of transforming life into art. The regime –ignited by a Facebook status that spirals into a movement– is such that money has been abolished and people exchange information products as tokens of exchange. States have become ungovernable and borders have been redrawn by powerful individuals. Art has fully colonized life and every aspect of daily existence has become aesthetic. What used to be museums have now become data centres. Being is perpetual self-design. No one has a profession. There is no more work. A group of people meet in a city that was once called Berlin, and there they discuss the possibilities for independent cultural production.
