Etel Adnan (d. 1925, Beyrut) Sausalito, Kaliforniya ve Paris’te yaşayan bir şair, ressam ve deneme yazarıdır. Babası Suriyeli bir Müslüman, annesi Yunanlı bir Hıristiyan olan Adnan, Paris, Sorbonne’da, Kaliforniya Üniversitesi, Berkeley’de ve Harvard’da felsefe okudu. 1958–72 yılları arasında Dominican University of California, San Rafael’de felsefe eğitimi veren Adnan, sonraki dört yıl Beyrut’taki iki günlük gazetenin kültürel editörü olarak görev yaptı. 1977’de yayımlanan, Lübnan iç savaşıyla ilgili romanı Sitt Marie-Rose, France-Pays Arabes Ödülü’nü kazandı. İşleri yakın zamanda Mathaf – Arab Museum of Modern Art, Doha, Katar’da Etel Adnan in All Her Dimensions [Bütün Boyutlarında Etel Adnan] (2014) adlı kişisel sergide, New York’taki Whitney Bienali’nde (2014) ve dOCUMENTA (13), Kassel’da (2012) gösterildi.
Etel Adnan (b. 1925, Beirut) is a poet, a painter, and essayist who lives and works in Sausalito, California and Paris. Her father was a Muslim Syrian and her mother was a Christian Greek. She studied philosophy at the Sorbonne, Paris, University of California, Berkeley, and Harvard. From 1958–72, she taught philosophy at Dominican University of California, San Rafael, then went on to work as a cultural editor for two daily newspapers in Beirut between 1972–76. Her novel about the Lebanese Civil War, Sitt Marie-Rose, was first published in 1977, winning the France-Pays Arabes Award. Her work was recently presented in the solo exhibition Etel Adnan in All Her Dimensions at Mathaf – Arab Museum of Modern Art, Doha, Qatar (2014) and was included in the Whitney Biennial, New York (2014) and dOCUMENTA (13), Kassel (2012).
