Lev Troçki (d. 1879, Kerson – ö. 1940, Coyoacán) Marksist devrimci ve düşünür, Rusya Devrimi'nde Kızıl Ordu'nun kurucusu ve Sovyet lideriydi. Ekim Devrimi'nden hemen önce Bolşevik kuvvetlerine katılan Troçki, devrimin ve SSCB'nin en önemli figürlerinden birine dönüştü. Jozef Stalin'in iktidara gelmesi sonrasında, özellikle bürokrasinin fazlaca güçlenmesine karşı başarısız bir muhalefet yürüttü. Bunun sonucunda 1927'de partiden, 1929'da da ülkeden kovuldu. 1940 yılında Meksika'da sürgündeyken bir KGB ajanı tarafından Stalin'in emriyle öldürüldü. Sürgün dört yılını Büyükada'daki evinde geçmiştir.

Leon Trotsky (b. 1879, Kirovohrad – d. 1940, Coyoacán) was a Marxist revolutionary and thinker, the founder of the Red Army in the Russian Revolution and a Soviet politician. Joining the Bolsheviks right before the October Revolution, Trotsky became one of the major figures of the Bolshevik victory. After Joseph Stalin came to power, Trotsky led a failed opposition against Stalinist policies, mainly the overempowerment of the bureaucracy. As a result, he was expelled from the Party and later exiled from the USSR, in 1927 and 1929 respectively. He was assassinated in 1940 by the Soviet secret service upon Stalin's order. He spent four years on exile in Büyükada, Istanbul.
