Peter G. Tait (d. 1831, Dalkeith – ö. 1901, Edinburgh) Treatise on Natural Philosophy [Doğal Felsefenin İncelemesi] adlı enerji fiziği ders kitabı ile bilinen İskoç bir matematiksel fizikçiydi. Okul hayatı boyunca parlak bir öğrenci olan Tait, lisans öğrenimini Peterhouse, Cambridge’de tamamladı (1852) ve Queen’s College, Belfast’ta matematik profesörü oldu. Meslektaşlarından etkilendikçe araştırma konuları matematikten temel bilimlere doğru kaydı. Fizik ve özellikle termodinamik, ısı, ışık, maddenin özellikleri ve dinamik üzerine birçok kitap, inceleme ve makale kaleme aldı. Peter G. Tait (b. 1831, Dalkeith – d. 1901, Edinburgh) was a Scottish mathematical physicist known for the energy physics textbook Treatise on Natural Philosophy (1867). A brilliant student throughout his education, Tait completed his undergraduate education in Peterhouse, Cambridge (1852) and became a professor of mathematics at Queen’s College, Belfast (1854). His research interests shifted from mathematics toward the sciences under the influence of his colleagues. He is the author of various books, treatises and articles on physics and specifically thermodynamics, heat, light, the properties of matter and dynamics. His early investigations into knot theory contributed to the development of topology as a mathematical discipline.
